What is document forwarding and how can I use it?

Focus:  The focus of this self-help article is to provide steps and information about document forwarding.

What is document forwarding?:  Document forward provides you the option to enable on the document level so that your recipients can forward to another person to review the document and/or sign if necessary.

Feature availability:  Enable for all plans. This feature is available in our in Add-on Store. Please go to the “Add-on Store” found on the bottom left of your account to locate and enable. Click here to learn  more about the Add-on Store.

Step 1: Open a document. Open an existing draft document or create a new one. When the document is opened, click on “Recipients” on the right.

Step 2:  Document Forwarding options. Under recipients, you will see two toggle switches. These options are designed for document forwarding. They are:

  1. Allow recipients to forward this document to other people — By enabling this option, this will provide a choice for your recipients to forward the document to be viewed by another email address.
  2. Allow signers to forward this document for signature to other people – In order for this option to be selected, the top choice must be selected first. Once done by enabling this option, this will provide a choice for your recipients to forward the document and allows the “Content fields” (such as Signature field) to be assigned to the forwarding email address to be completed.

Step 3: Example use of allowing recipients to forward to another email address.  Shown below is an example document that we have sent out to one email address. Over on the right, you will see “Forward”, which will a provide a pop up window to forward this to another email address.

When your recipient forwards the document to another email address, you will be notified via email of this event. Show below is an example:

Step 4: Example use of allowing recipients to forward to another email address and enabled to be signed by the forwarded recipient. Shown below is an example document that we have sent out to one email address. Over on the right, you will see “Forward”, which will a provide a pop up window to forward this to another email address. You will also see a checkbox to confirm that the forwarded email address can fill out the Content fields, such as the Signature block.

When your recipient forwards the document to another email address, you will be notified via email of this event. Show below is an example:
