Cancellation of Lease Agreement
When your lease is up at a rented property, you should always deliver a formal letter announcing that you won’t be renewing or extending your lease agreement. This template can be used for tenants renting any residential or commercial property, including apartments, houses, and offices.
Be certain that the information in this top section of the template is accurate to avoid any miscommunication.
To Whom It May Concern,
The purpose of this letter is to serve as a notice of cancellation of my lease agreement. I am currently a tenant at the address listed above under the terms of a lease agreement which expires on [Lease.ExpirationDate]. This letter serves as formal notice that I do not intend to extend or renew the lease agreement, and will be vacating the leased property no later than [Exit.Date].
I hereby formally request a walkthrough of the above listed property with a property manager, owner, or other approved individual. Once the walkthrough has been complete and any deductions have been made, you may forward the balance of my security deposit by mail to the following address:
You should always conduct a walkthrough with the owner or manager or your leased property or one of their representatives. This ensures that they don’t make frivolous deductions from your security deposit. Be sure to include your new address in the template so that your deposit can be mailed to you.
Should you have any questions or need to reach me for any reason, you may do so via phone or email as follows:
PROPERTY OWNER/MANAGER: Please sign below to indicate your receipt of this cancellation of lease agreement.
Requiring the property owner or manager to sign this template ensures that they are aware of your intent to vacate, and encourages them to schedule your walk-through as requested.
