Edit your documents in Word, right from PandaDoc
Microsoft Word Editor
If your team lives in Microsoft Word, uploading a document to PandaDoc used to mean a trade-off. To edit the file, you converted it first, and conversion changed your formatting, your tables, and your styling. So you fixed it by hand, or you made the real edits back in Word and re-uploaded.
That trade-off is gone. You can now edit your uploaded Word documents directly in Microsoft 365, right from PandaDoc, and your changes sync back on their own. Your formatting stays exactly the way you built it.
How it works
Upload a Word document to PandaDoc and it comes in as-is, with no conversion. When you're ready to make changes, click Edit in Word. Microsoft 365 opens in your browser, you edit the text the way you always have, and when you close it, your changes sync back to PandaDoc. PandaDoc saves a version after each editing session, so you can look back or restore an earlier one. [confirm exact button label and steps]
Your formatting stays put
This is the part that changes the day-to-day. Because you're editing the real file in Word, nothing gets flattened or reflowed on the way in. Your tables, fonts, spacing, and layout stay intact, so the document you send looks like the one you wrote. There's no cleanup pass, and no "why does this look broken" moment before it goes out.
Edit in Word, manage in PandaDoc
You keep the tool your team knows for the writing, and PandaDoc handles everything after the document is ready. You set up signing and fields in PandaDoc, track who's opened and signed, and store the final version in one place. Editing stays in Word. Versioning, e-signature, and tracking stay in PandaDoc. Built for teams that work in Word
Some documents just start in Word, and some never leave it. Legal teams negotiate and mark up contracts in Word. Clients and outside counsel send edits back in Word. Executives review within the tool they already use. If that's how your team works, you no longer have to choose between Word and PandaDoc. You get both, on the same document.
What you need to get started
To edit in Word, you'll use Microsoft 365 for the web. A free Microsoft tier works, so you don't need a paid Microsoft account. [confirm exact requirement] Native Word editing is available in the new PandaDoc editor and is rolling out now. [confirm plan and rollout]
Getting started is simple. Upload a Word document, click Edit in Word, and make your changes. See the full details in the Help Center.
FAQs
You can edit uploaded Microsoft Office files, specifically .docx, .pptx, and .xlsx. Uploaded PDFs aren't supported, and documents you create natively in PandaDoc (PandaDoc pages) can't be converted to Word and edited this way.
Yes. You can use Word Online to edit Word files you've uploaded to either Documents or Templates.
No. This feature uses a free tier of Microsoft 365, so you don't need a personal or business Microsoft account. Note that logging in with your own Microsoft account isn't supported.
It's available only in the new PandaDoc editor (Delta), not the classic editor. During Early Access, only accounts enrolled in Delta will see the "Edit in Microsoft" button.
Recipients can't. Redlining for PandaDoc collaborators (your internal users) can work technically, but the experience isn't ideal and can be unreliable.
No. PandaDoc fields, like signatures and text inputs, don't sync to the Microsoft editor, so you can't see, add, move, or delete them while you're editing in Microsoft 365. Set up all your fields in PandaDoc after you finish the Word editing session.
PandaDoc locks the document while a Microsoft Word session is active, so you can't edit it in PandaDoc at the same time. Close the Microsoft editor tab to unlock it.
Word (.docx) files work best. You can open Excel and PowerPoint files for online editing, but the experience may be less polished and can vary.
No. This feature edits Microsoft Office files you've already uploaded. Converting PandaDoc-native pages to Word is out of scope.
